Ben Foss film

Under the headline “Disability film fest focuses on achievers,” Brenda Payton of InsideBayArea (San Fransisco ssma, CA), has a story about the International Disability Film Festival being held in Berkeley. She mentions Ben Foss of Intel in the article.

Ben Foss, the other local filmmaker in the festival, chose a subject close to home, dyslexia. Foss was identified as having dyslexia when he was 8.
After making an adjustment, he was able to earn a law degree and an MBA from Stanford University. “I stopped reading and started listening to books,” he said. He scans written material into a computer and speech software reads it to him. He listens at a speed at which most people could not decipher the words.

I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Foss a few weeks ago. He’s working on ways to make printed materials more readily accessible to people with visual impairments and dyslexia. I don’t know about his film, but he’s a very interesting and excited guy about whom I hope to hear more.
