While working on a post for Teach Effectively!, I came across a Web site for a private school that specializes in helping students with Learning Disabilities. That reminded me that I recently had a pleasant chat with the top dog for another private school that’s been quite successful. I wonder if I ought to start a list of these places.
- Morningside Academy—Seattle, WA.
- Groves Academy—St. Paul, MN.
John, I have a list someplace that I made of the schools that advertise in the International Dyslexia Association’s publications. I’ll shoot the list over probably tomorrow.
I also wonder why there’s not an association of such schools, as there is for the independent schools generally (NAIS), girls’ schools, boys’ schools etc.
Liz, it’d be great to get IDA’s list and publish it; it would need supplemental information, as I suspect the IDA list may be specific to dyslexia and the Orton-Gillingham approach. I, too, wonder whether these is a league, association, or society. I haven’t the time to search the National Association of Independent Schools’s site now, though….
